Well my name is Ruth, and I’m kind of like Obi-Wan or Gandalf, in that I actually come from a Former Age… the one before BSG, where princes and devils stalked the earth (at least the theatres!), young aristocrats with bears charmed young ladies (at least on radio!) and good doctors healed the sick (at least in the Peak District!) and best of all, Britannia ruled the waves! (especially on TV at eight o’clock on a Wednesday night!) Not that I’m into wave-ruling, or all that imperial stuff, but the Royal Nayvay of 1800 did do a nifty line in hot uniforms, and the casting directors of ‘Hornblower’ sure knew how to fill ‘em! So I was around when Jamie said his first ever professional line, in the first minute of the series, and have been his willing slave ever since! It never bothered me that he was half my age, because a) I had a Jamie-smitten daughter to hide behind, and b) I’m a respectable lady who is only interested in his superlative acting skills… Yeah, really… (Teehee!) I live in the Severn Valley, England, and am married to a lovely guy who never laughs at my fandom. He raves about Hornblower with me, laughs at Peak Practice and Ultimate Force, and came with me to see Jamie’s plays, chatting pleasantly with him in the theatre bar afterwards. Greater love hath no man! Hubby even drove me to Collectormania in Milton Keynes because I had an eye problem at the time and couldn’t drive myself! I have two grown-up kids, a lad who DOES laugh at my fandom, but in a kindly, non-judgmental (condescending?) way, (Poor Mum… gotta go along with these little mid-life crises…) and a lass who is as much a Jamie fan as I am. She is married now, and her lovely guy never laughs at her fandom either, so it’s all good! We hang out mostly on Horatians.org, and I don’t have much time to spend on the computer, but I met Michelle and some of the Bunnies at Collectormania, and she was so welcoming that I couldn’t resist coming over here to mingle! This is a terrific site, and I’m loving being here, and looking forward to sharing some stuff from the ‘old days’. Now… where did I leave my grey cloak and lightsabre?… and I’m sure I put that One Ring down around here somewhere… |
