Hi, I'm BraveNCrazy aka Melinda aka Mel. I have been a sci-fi fan ever since I was about 6 years old and my older brother introduced me to the original Star Trek series. He was a die hard Trekkie and was determined to make one out of me. He succeeded. After only one episode I was not only hooked on Trek but totally addicted to the idea of life in space. As a little girl I used to daydream that one day the Enterprise would show up and beam me up. Sad to say that never happened, but hey a girl can dream can't she? ![]() After tasting Star Trek I devoured anything and everything sci-fi and one of my favorite shows was the original Battlestar Galactica. My very first crush was Richard Hatch's Apollo and I was one smitten kitten, lemme tell ya. As the years went by I remained a loyal Trekkie, following all the shows and movies and also got totally immersed in the Star Wars universe. Oh, and there was Firefly, to which I was totally addicted. I was excited about the prospect of the new Battlestar, but a little skeptical of another actor playing Apollo. As the mini-series opened I was like, "Oh man I am not gonna like this guy," when Lee came off as pretty cocky. In the back of my mind I was also thinking, but damn he's cute. As the mini progressed, we were treated to seeing more and more of the man under the attitude. The rest is history really. I was totally in love with Jamie's Apollo (and Jamie!) by the end of the mini and have been ever since. I've heard so many others say it, but it's worth saying again: how many actors do you know who can do what he does with just the slightest change in facial expression? His talent is amazing I really wanted to attend some conventions back when BSG was at its peak and get to meet Jamie and some of the other cast members, but our youngest was just a baby then so it was kind of out of the question. Now that she's older I'm hoping to get back into the sci-fi world in a big way. OK, now for a little on my life in the real world. I live in North Carolina and I'm Southern gal to the core. I'm 38 and my hubby and I celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary this month. (September 17). We have three daughters, ages 19, 16 and 3. The oldest moved out this summer and lives in another state. I home school the other two and when I'm not busy with ABCs and history and storybooks and biology, I love to watch sci-fi, read sci-fi, write sci-fi......you get the picture. I'm also into photography and art and have a small sideline business making lifelike dolls. My involvement in sci-fi fandom is my way to unwind, take a break from the daily grind and indulge my muse. As for my handle BraveNCrazy....all I can say is I'm a mom, so that pretty much makes me both! |
