| Raemani75's Bio |

So where to begin? It took me nearly 6 months of reading the thread at Scifi.com to finally decide to post. So I guess it is fitting that it has taken me just over a year to finally sit down and write my bio. First a little about me, my name is Kristin and I live just outside of Philadelphia in Bensalem. I was born and raised in Perry Hall, MD. I have a BS degree in Biology and Wildlife Management from Frostburg State University (don’t worry, no one ever knows where it is) and an MBA from University of Phoenix, which I obtained from their Philadelphia Campus while working full time. I currently work in Customer Service of a big company (that will remain nameless) entering orders and scheduling our private fleet trucks. As far as interests I enjoy reading, doing counted cross stitch, role playing (the dice and paper kind), watching TV and movies and bowling. I started watching BSG with The Farm; to say I was confused would be an understatement. My friend from college, Michelle (yes there is another one), first introduced me to the show. As we sat and watched, she gave me a little background on the show. The premise sounded interesting, so the next Friday I decided to check it out. That episode. Home, part 1 was the first time I really remember noticing Lee Adama, played by Jamie Bamber. While still a bit confused, I was hooked. Not long after this introduction we were expected a snow storm over a weekend. I ran out to the store to find Season 1 (making sure it included the Mini-series of course). I quickly caught up on Season 1, while continuing to watch season 2.0. Of course I had to wait a bit for that season to come out in order to catch those episodes I missed. Of course this was back before the time between seasons was a year, so the wait wasn't all that long. The one character I was drawn to in every episode was Lee “Apollo” Adama. While watching the extra’s on the DVD I discovered that the actor who played Lee was British born Jamie Bamber. I was a bit shocked to hear him speak with his native accent, until that point I would have assumed that he was an American (or Canadian). I loved the interactions with his father and the president as well Kara “Starbuck” Thrace. I couldn’t get enough of the show. As season 2 wound down I went on a quest to find out more about Jamie (and in turn BSG). This is where the forums at SciFi.com, and the bunnies come into play. While googling (is that even a word?) Jamie I came across various posts from the forums. So I decided to read through some of the thread. Unfortunately at the time I didn’t have a whole lot of free time, so I only caught bits and pieces. As season 3 started I had more free time, and was able to keep up with the posting much easier (they were still posting 10-20 pages a day). I continued to read along as bunnies attended cons, and visited other bunnies. As season 3 wound down and it was looking like it was going to be a long wait for season 4, I made the decision that I was going to post in the thread. I was going to need something to get me through what was looking like a 9 month hiatus (it turned out to be over a year) So just a few weeks after the season ended I made my first post on April 18, 2007. When I made that post I honestly thought I would make a few posts and then go back to mainly lurking. Boy was I wrong. I was suddenly posting multiple times every day. The people on the thread became like a family to me, my online family. They suggested other works that Jamie has participated in like Horatio Hornblower, and while I haven’t had the chance to see everything he is in, I am sure I will. So when everyone was deciding to go to Dragon*Con in 2007, I never thought I would have the courage to go too. But I found a great price on flights, and there I was in Atlanta for Labor Day (with 10 others from the thread, or their spouses). Since that time I have attended screenings of Razor with Bluebucmello, flew across the pond (my first overseas trip) to attend a convention and spend a week in London with several other bunnies, flew to Germany and got lost in Bonn with Bamberrific, driven to MD and DC as well as taken the train to NYC to see members of my online family and made friendships that will last beyond BSG. What a year it has been. And the excitement isn’t stopping there I have many other trips and outings planned with various members of the bunny ranks. Whether it be conventions (with, or without Jamie), or just hanging out for the weekend it is always more fun with friends. |
