I have been asked a few times about the derivation of the name NoDifferentFlesh. When I registered, I decided to use a name that was not directly related to BSG but that would show off another SF interest of mine. "No Different Flesh" is the name of a short story written by Zenna Henderson, and I thought it would be a good username for posting about an SF topic. Zenna Henderson is best known for her series of short stories about The People. I first read these stories and her other SF works as a teenager. Lines from them echo in my head to this day. In that way, my love for her stories is much like my love for BSG, as the BSG episodes certainly stick in my mind. That is especially true of any scenes involving Lee Adama. I was a teenager when the original series of BSG aired and was drawn to Captain Apollo even then. I was skeptical when I first heard about the new mini-series but decided to give it a shot. What can I say? I was sold right away. I have been a Lee fan since the beginning. It was the father-son relationship that drew me in and that still interests me most to this day. Jamie Bamber's acting was quite impressive and continues to enthrall me. He can do so much without ever saying a word. I do often wish that the writers would give him more words to say or, at least, more scenes to be in, though. The mid-season hiatus during season two left me at loose ends and craving a connection to my beloved show and my favorite character. I visited the board at SciFi and became a lurker. I never expected to post. Luckily for me, I braved the slight terror I felt at making my first post and was warmly welcomed into my favorite thread. Now I have fellow fans (and friends) who will discuss the show and my favorite character and actor with me. |
