I'm Laurie (laurie31) I'm happily married to Brad, and we have two beautiful daughters. We also have four dogs, four cats, a fish, and a bearded dragon. I'm a sucker for a homeless animal. Four of our furry friends came from rescues/shelters and four were strays. My children are very much like Lee and Kara. My Lee child is quiet and serious, but can have fun if provoked properly. She can also be moody and gets her feelings hurt easily. My Kara child is never just plain happy or sad - she's wildly exuberant with joy or deeply devastated or furiously angry. And she can switch between them in a nanosecond. She loves to push her sister's buttons, just to watch her reaction. She's the owner of the lizard. We never quite know what she's going to do or say. Life with her is never dull. We live in a little town in the Deep South where no one locks their doors and people leave their car keys in the ignition, but I commute to work in the "big city" of Birmingham. (Where my car doors are firmly locked, thank you!) I have a Master's Degree in Nursing, and work part-time as a supervisor in a Level One trauma center. I do staffing, trauma coordination, and fix whatever goes wrong. Sometimes I watch BSG to cheer myself up! Although I do mostly love my job, and it's never dull! I volunteer at my girls' school on some of my off-days. I like to sing, travel, and scrapbook. I love photography, and even won a photography contest last year - a trip to London! I love London very much; I spent a semester abroad there my junior year, so it was really great to go back. I also like cooking, decorating cakes, and horseback riding. No, we do not own horses. No, we aren't GOING to own horses. I was a die-hard fan of the original Battlestar Galactica. I liked Star Wars and Star Trek, but BG was my show! I had high hopes for Richard Hatch's plans for revival and wasn't really impressed with what I was hearing about Ron Moore's version. I refused to watch the mini-series. That wasn't MY Galactica. However, it went to series, and then Richard Hatch agreed to guest star. So I watched Bastille Day. All the scenes with Richard Hatch in them...also had Jamie Bamber in them. Hello, Lee Adama!! I found myself drawn into the story. I liked this re-imagining after all! It had the gritty desperate feel missing from the original (thanks to ABC's interference no doubt! Ahem...) and the cast were all fabulous! Anyway, I've never really been a fan of an actor before. For example, I enjoyed Star Wars, and thought Han Solo was cute, but I didn't just watch something because Harrison Ford was in it. However, the more I learned about Jamie, the more I became a fan. I loved Lee Adama, but I was very impressed with Jamie; his acting, his intelligence, his stable family life. I have no interest in celebrities who flit about from one marriage to the next; Jamie and his wife seem very much in love, and he's so well-spoken. I could listen to his interviews forever. So I watched other things with Jamie in them. Now I'm the proud owner of the Hornblower series, and I'll watch anything with Jamie, from celebrity poker to Cold Case. As BSG seasons are short and hiatuses (hiatusi? LOL) are long, I found myself searching for fanfic on the net to fill my BSG-addiction. I got to know some great authors and fans, and then I found my way to the skiffy site. I ventured onto the Jamie appreciation thread from time to time, as they always have the best pictures, but I didn't get the nerve to register and post until Mick1997 talked me into it (THANK YOU, Mick!!). I had encountered groups like the bunnies online before, and they were cliquish, but the bunnies are not like that at all! They are very down-to-earth and friendly. Just like Jamie himself. I was welcomed with open arms, and now I'm a full-fledged bunnie in the e-familee. I now write my own fanfic; I am fascinated by the Bill/Lee relationship, and I've started learning a bit about fan art. I love catching up with the bunnies every morning! The Jamie thread is great place to find love, support, and understanding, and have a great time! |
